Rooted in the Region. Serious About Design.
homes, public spaces, and thoughtful details
Hillside residence with sweeping views, pool and spa, and seamless indoor-outdoor living. Low-profile design that merges with the terrain.
At the crown of the development with commanding Lake Chelan views. Hygge-inspired warmth, grounded in its hillside setting and refined in every detail.
Mountain-modern home set among ponderosa pines. A Nordic ski paradise that is integrated with its landscape.
A thoughtful addition, remodel and landscape for a beloved vacation home in Mazama. New life for an existing home, without erasing its character.
A performance and gathering space for the TwispWorks campus — open, flexible, and deeply connected to the creative energy of the community it serves.
A residence in the heart of Twisp that balances town-life accessibility with the quiet, considered qualities of mountain living.
Current projects in design and development — each one pushing the studio forward.
Bob Maves Memorial Sculpture Park — a designed civic gathering space on Glover Street with rotating public art.
A new residence overlooking Lake Chelan — designed around commanding lake views, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
A remote cabin perched on a cliff above Lake Chelan — minimal footprint, maximum presence. Private, quiet, and deliberately apart from the everyday.
A multi-home community in Twisp built around shared spaces, sustainability, and the Methow way of life.
Serious Fun Studio is a small architecture and design firm based in the Methow Valley, founded by creative partners and spouses Kit and Sam Kollmeyer. The studio brings decades of combined experience in architecture, design, and construction to every project — from the first sketch to the last detail.
Collaborative by nature, the team loves connecting with clients and builders to shape projects that are both highly functional and genuinely delightful. Whether designing a mountain retreat, a hillside residence, or a community gathering space, the studio approaches each commission with curiosity, craft, and a deep respect for place.
Kit grew up in Lake Chelan and has worked in architecture and construction for 26+ years — as a builder (9 years) and designer & project lead (19+ years). His hands-on background brings insight and innovation to every commission. Worked with notable firms in Seattle and Basel, Switzerland. Kit is the board president of the Twisp Creative District, and a regular volunteer with several other non-profit organizations.
A long-time Pacific Northwest resident, Sam began her Methow practice in 2015. Her experience spans landscapes, residences, public buildings, and entire city plans — with study abroad at the UW Rome Center and the Chandigarh College of Architecture in India. When not in the studio, she's biking, skiing, or very seriously watching The Great British Bakeoff.
Kaare brings over a decade of experience creating thoughtful, high-performing spaces grounded in sustainability and healthy materials. She has led large creative teams, spoken nationally on sustainable design, and consulted with global companies on healthier material choices. She joined Serious Fun Studio in 2024 for work that felt more personal, place-based, and impactful.
Ben Kollmeyer's early career as a licensed general contractor and later a certified home inspector has proven a great asset to Serious Fun Studio. With deep roots in North Central Washington and decades of experience building, managing and assessing structures throughout the region, he brings an invaluable field perspective to the team — connecting design intent with real-world buildability.
Great design is a conversation. We bring ideas, expertise, and enthusiasm. You bring vision, values, and a place to call home. Here's how we do it together.
We start with a conversation — and we really listen. We want to understand your life, your site, and your dreams before a single line is drawn. Site visits, sketches on napkins, and coffee are all part of this phase.
Sketches become drawings, drawings become models. We explore broadly and refine relentlessly until the design feels not just good, but right. Every decision connects back to the vision you shared in Discovery.
We produce clear, comprehensive construction documents that translate design into buildable reality. Our builder's fluency means drawings that minimize surprises, protect your budget, and communicate intent precisely.
We stay engaged throughout construction — visiting the site, collaborating with your builder, and making sure every detail lands the way it was intended. We're advocates for your vision until the last nail is driven.
Ready to talk about your project? We'd love to hear about it. Come visit us at TwispWorks in the beautiful Methow Valley, or reach out any way that works for you.
